Segway Mobility Scooter Concept
Segway-Ninebot has just released their vision for a futuristic mobility device called the S-Pod. They say it’s based roughly on the Jurassic World Gyrosphere. It’s a self-balancing chair with two wheels under it and it looks like a great mobility scooter for people with limited mobility.
The S-Pod is stated to go about 24mph and 43 miles. The device can carry 330lbs, but it’s unclear from the photos and specs how wide it might be. The rider on the S-Pod doesn’t need to lean forward or backward for acceleration or braking. It uses a knob for control and shifting the center of gravity.
This appears to be a neat concept for outdoor mobility and short trips around the neighborhood. However around town it might prove awkward around faster moving cars. In any event it seems like a nice mobility solution but we’ll have to wait until it gets more refined and more details are divulged. It was shown at CES 2020 in Las Vegas where a few people were able to test it out.
